2004 Canadian Amputee National Open

The Okanagan Golf Club played host to the 2004 CANO (Canadian Amputee National Open) from August 24 to August 26. This 3 day event is a big thing, drawing players from throughout BC, Alberta, Ontario, the U.S. and as far away as Cape Town, South Africa.

Some of these players will show "The Bear" who is boss!

Bob Mac Dermott Director at Large of CAGA

Bob MacDermott, Director at Large, is a triple amputee, having lost his left arm below the elbow, his leg below the knee and his right thumb when he was injured in an electrical accident and an ambulance accident on route to the hospital. Bob was a golfer prior to his accident, but has improved his game even more since then and currently sports a 2 golf factor.

Gwen Davies and Bronwyn Booth

Gwen Davies, President of CAGA is a right leg, below knee amputee from Calgary, Alberta. Gwen lost her leg at the age of three, due to congenital problems. Gwen is very active in amputee golf, playing in tournaments at the local, provincial, national and international level. Gwen held the title of Canadian Ladies Amputee golf champion in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2002. She won the Ladies British Amputee Open in 1996 and 1998. Gwen was the Ladies runner-up at the First World series of Golf in Australia in 1996 and won the Second World series event in 2002. For many years Gwen was in volved in the leasing and management of shopping centres in Western Canada, more particularly Alberta.

Overall winner was Rick Kraft of Kelowna BC.
Overall Seniors winner was Dan Hewitt, of Red Deer, Alberta
Overall Ladies winner was Gwen Davies, of Calgary, Alberta
