Jackie Little wins the first BC Women's Mid-Amateur Championship
Fairview Mountain Golf Course, Oliver, B.C. June 28, 2006 – Port Alberni’s, Jackie Little held off first-round leader, Kim Evans, to win the first B.C. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship by four strokes and a 13-over 232 finish.
Penny Baziuk finished in third place after posting 19-
over 238 just one stroke ahead of fourth-place finisher Lynda Palahniuk. Before moving to Port Alberni, five-time B.C. Women’s Amateur Champion, Jackie Little and
her family resided in the Okanagan for more than two decades.
“I am especially happy to have won the first ever Mid-Amateur Championship back in the Okanagan,” says Little. “It means a lot to me to have my name be the first on the trophy.” Heading into the final round of the amateur section, Christina Spence, sitting at 4-under 215 has a five stroke lead over Kira Meixner. Ashley Hogg moved into third place with a 4-over par 223 followed by Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John who fired the low round of the day with a 2-under 71 to move up the leaderboard and sit at 5-over 224.
For the Women’s Amateur Championship, Fairview Mountain played to a par 73 with a course rating of 74.3, slope 132.
The final round tees off Thursday morning at 7am with the top four finishers representing B.C. at the Royale National Women’s Amateur Championship in Moncton, N.B. Last year, Caroline Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C. finished as the top British Columbian in fourth place. In provincial team play, B.C. claimed its first title since 1987, topping Ontario and Alberta.
