Stellar Field Set for the 2010 Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship

(Acton, ON) July 2, 2010 – The Canadian PGA is pleased to announce that one of the most impressive fields in the history of the event is set to compete for the 2010 Mr. Lube - Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon, July 5th-8th at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton, ON.

The 54-hole National Championship includes some of the best Canadian senior professionals with a number of those players holding National and Provincial Championship titles. This year the impressive cast includes Dave Barr, Jim Rutledge, Rod Spittle, Ken Tarling, Bob Panasik, Warren Sye, Norm Jarvis and Craig Marseilles.

“We are very excited to have such a competitive field at the Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship; in fact, this may be one of the strongest fields we have ever had,” said Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “This is a great way to kick it off with our new sponsors Mr. Lube and Cleveland Golf/Srixon.”

Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Dave Barr of Westbank, BC will arrive in Milton after back to back weeks on the Champions Tour thanks to sponsor exemptions into both the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open and the Montreal Championship that starts on Friday, July 2nd. Another victory at the Canadian PGA Seniors’ may spur Barr on to head back out to Champions Tour Qualifying School this fall.

Champions Tour player Jim Rutledge of Victoria, BC is making his first appearance at the Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon next week after a strong start on the 2010 Champions Tour where he sits in 71st place on the money list with $73,550 in earnings.

Rod Spittle of Niagara Falls, ON is making his second appearance at the Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship this week after a successful run on the Champions Tour. In his last four years, Spittle has played in over 25 events and earned almost $480,000. While Spittle now resides in Dublin, OH he is no stranger to Canadian competition having won the 1977 and 1978 Canadian Amateur Championship title against many of the friends and competitors that he will see again this week.

“We are thrilled to be the title sponsor of such a prestigious event and to kick it all off with our Mr. Lube – Tournament for Life Pro-Am,” stated Stuart Suls, President and Chief Operation Officer of Mr. Lube Canada. “Many of the names teeing it up for the National Championship are ones that we all followed growing up and we expect it to come right down to the wire on Thursday afternoon.”

Ken Tarling of Sandford, ON and Norm Jarvis of Surrey, BC will look to avenge their runner-up finish from last year but they won’t have to worry about the man that beat them in 2009 as defending champion Ray Stewart of Abbotsford, BC had to undergo shoulder surgery on both of his shoulders in the spring and is unable to defend his title.

The feature pairing of Barr, Rutledge and Tarling will go at 10:10 AM on Tuesday, July 6th off the first tee on the Copperhead course at RattleSnake Point.

In total, seven past champions of the event will tee it up in 2010: Barr (’07), Hocan Olsson (’05), Adam Brown (’04), Doug Warner (’03), Panasik (’01, ’98, ’97), Ken Fulton (’96) and Bob Rose (’93, ’92, ’90).

The Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship gets underway Monday, July 5th with the Mr. Lube Tournament for Life Pro-Am, in benefit of Prostate Cancer Canada. The $50,000 Mr. Lube - Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon will commence on Tuesday, July 6th and will consist of a three-day, 54-hole individual stroke play competition. The Super Seniors’ (60 and older) and Diamond (70 and older) divisions will be contested over 36 holes in two days.
