“Parry and Daniels Prove to be too consistent at Morgan Creek”

It was a fitting end to the VGT season at the AUGUSTA RESOURCE CORP VGT Tour Championship at Morgan Creek as VGT’s Order of Merit Leader Bryn Parry took home a share of low honours for effectively his 4th win of the year. Canadian Tour veteran Matt Daniel shared the Championship trophy with Parry, equalling his score of 69 (-3). Both Professionals pocketed $1,300 for their winning scores. This was Daniel’s second win of the VGT season after winning the ECCO Spring Championship at Hazelmere back in May. Parry’s round consisted of four birdies and a bogey while Daniels carded five birdies and two bogeys on the day. Four players including 2007 VGT Order of Merit Champion Phil Jonas finished one shot back at -2, each collecting $750.

In the Amateur side of the AUGUSTA RESOURCE CORP VGT Tour Championship, Greg Pool of Surrey carded a very solid round of 71 (-1) to win Low Amateur honours by five shots taking home a $250 Gift Certificate from Perfect Lies. In the 6-10 flight, 15 year-old Brendan Southwind of Fraserview shot an impressive round of 75 that included a opening 9 hole score of 35 (-1). Southwind was also rewarded with a $250 Gift Certificate from Perfect Lies for his winning score. Our low sponsor of the day was Ken Short who posted a net 67 on the day. Congratulations to all prize winners at the 2008 AUGUSTA RESOURCE CORP Tour Championship!

Special thanks to Morgan Creek Golf Course for playing host to our 2008 Tour Championship. Conditions were fantastic and the golf course was a true test of Championship Golf! Needless to say, this year’s VGT Tour Championship was a true success due to the Title Sponsorship of our event – AUGUSTA RESOURCES CORP (http://www.augustaresource.com/). My thanks go out to Richard Warke of Augusta for making this tournament such a huge success! Thanks for making a difference and in helping BC’s Golf Development!!

2008 VGT ORDER OF MERIT WINNERS
It is an understatement to say the least that Bryn Parry has been a measure of consistency this year. By finishing in the top 4 twelve times out of 15, he has banked over $15,400 in earnings to capture the 2008 VGT ORDER OF MERIT (OOM) Title. This year’s OOM runner-up was Guilford’s Dan Swanson. Playing in 13 events compared to Parry’s 15, Swanson took home five victories this year and $12,333 in earnings and was about as close as he could get to the Champ. Parry’s iron-man schedule, consistency for top 4 finishes and iron-will to win proved to be the ultimate difference between these two player’s great seasons this year.

For his impressive play this year, Parry earned a $4,500 U.S. entry to the 2008 PGA Tour Q-School from VGT for leading the OOM at the end of our Summer Pro-am. Parry will be joined by 2007 VGT OOM Winner Phil Jonas as both will commence their journey to the PGA Tour on October 21st at East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, California. Please follow their progress by logging onto either our website or on the PGA Tour’s website at www.pgatour.com/qschool/.

VGT also gave away two Amateur Order of Merit Titles to members in both (0-5) and (6-10) handicap flights. After 11 Championship Amateur events, it was Han Baek of Swan-e-set Bay Resort who proved victorious in the 0-5 handicap flight, some 600 points over Redwoods Golf Course’s Ted Cho. In the 6-10 handicap flight it was Langley’s Mike Yoon who proved far too consistent for all takers, winning his division by over 1,500 points over Vancouver’s Masa Takahashi. Congratulations again to Bryn, Han and Mike for earning the title of being this year’s VGT Order of Merit Champions!

2008 has been a fantastic year for VGT in that we witnessed some very special moments in golf that included various tournament course records being set, a record amount of Pro money ($122,000) being paid out, a 40% surge in membership and tournament entries and a 20 year old amateur (Lucas Bogdan) winning our biggest championship of the year – The Vancouver Open. The amount of people to thank is endless, and without ALL of your support, Vancouver Golf Tour would not be where it is today and its players would not have had so many great competitive experiences to push them on towards greater heights and keep their dreams alive of reaching the PGA TOUR. Please take time to visit our SPONSOR’S PAGE (http://www.vancouvergolftour.com/2008/sponsors.htm) to see who it is that is making this venture happen for our developing players in BC!
