Allenby and Hoch Latest to Commit to Play in Air Canada Championship

VANCOUVER - Australian star Robert Allenby joins Scott Hoch as the latest players to commit to play the Air Canada Championship set to take place August 26 - September 1 on Surrey's Northview Golf & Country Club Ridge Course.

Allenby, who finished 16th on the 2001 money list, has had four top 10 finishes and nine top 25 finishes so far this year. He's currently ranked 34th in the world and is 47th on the 2002 TOUR money list. A four-time winner on the PGA TOUR, Allenby has earned 11 international titles and has participated in three Presidents Cup competitions. This will be Allenby's third appearance at the Air Canada Championship.

Veteran Scott Hoch, currently ranked 24th in the world, committed to play earlier this week. Hoch is a member of the 2002 U.S. Ryder Cup team and a ten-time winner on the PGA TOUR. Hoch was the highest finishing American at the 2002 British Open (T8). Other recent confirmations include veterans Fred Funk whose dramatic finish at last weekend's PGA Championship earned him a fourth place finish, Carlos Franco of Paraguay and former ACC champion Brandel Chamblee.

Players have until Friday, August 23, to commit to joining the156-man field.

This year's ACC field promises to be the best in the tournament's seven-year history and includes Vijay Singh of Fiji, Swedish sensation Jesper Parnevik, Shigeki Maruyama of Japan, Scott McCarron, Craig Perks, Kevin Sutherland, Darren Clarke, Canadian Mike Weir, Mark Calcavecchia and Peter Lonard.

Proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit the community programs of United Way of the Lower Mainland. The ACC has raised $4 million in its first five years of operation.
