BC Government Pesticide Committee Asking for Input on a Ban

As you may be aware, the BC Government has established a Pesticide Committee, composed of both Liberal and NDP MLAs. This committee was created in order to consider whether or not BC should prohibit the use of what is to be classed as ‘cosmetic’ pesticides. It is possible that all conventional pesticides for lawns and ornamental trees and shrubs will be banned, both for homeowner and professional applicator use. As we know from experience, the few ‘alternative’ products available are much more expensive and work very poorly, if at all.

We believe that all citizens of BC, whether professional applicators or homeowners, should have the right to use federally approved and certified products that have been extensively reviewed by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).

We ask that you take the 4 or 5 minutes required to complete the Government’s short questionnaire (link pasted below). If you do not support a ban, it is not necessary to answer questions 8 and 9. If you wish to explain your position more fully, there is also the extra option online for forwarding a written submission (which is not a requirement for submitting the questionnaire answers).

We also request that only BC residents submit a reply. It is important that the Government should know your view, as a BC citizen, on the personal or professional use of pesticides, whatever it may be. We sincerely hope that the Government considers only the real science behind pesticides, and not the misinformation being forwarded and promoted by anti-pesticide activists.

Each member of your family of voting age should submit a separate response. You should also ask your friends, relatives, and colleagues to respond.

Thanking you in advance for taking the time to complete the questionnaire,
