BC Senior Women’s Amateur Championship set to go at Meadow Gardens

PITT MEADOWS, B.C. (Friday, June 12, 2009) – A field of seventy five of British Columbia’s best senior women amateur golfers is set to get underway Monday at the challenging Meadow Gardens Golf Club in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. is set to defend her title in a competitive field that includes 2006 and 2007 champion, Holly Horwood of Vancouver, B.C., 2007 Canadian, Irish, and British Senior Women’s champion and 2005 B.C. Senior Women’s champion, Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. and last year’s runner-up and 2002 champion, Lynda Palahniuk of Kelowna, B.C.

In Little’s first year of senior eligibility she also swept the titles at the Canadian Senior Women’s and the PNGA Senior Women’s. She went on later that summer to finish in the round of sixteen at the USGA Senior Women’s.

The event will also play host to the Club and Zone Team Championships being held in conjunction with the first two rounds of play.

The B.C. Senior Women’s Championship is open to women amateur golfers who have reached their 50th birthday by June 15, 2009. The winner will be awarded the Lucy Markham Trophy.

The championship is conducted at stroke play over 54 holes with no cut. Championship play will be conducted Monday, June 15 through Wednesday, June 17, with 18 holes of stroke play each day.

The B.C. Team to the Canadian Championship will be made up of 4 players from this championship. The B.C. Senior Women's Championship is one of 13 provincial championships conducted annually by the BCGA.
