BETH DANIEL GRABS LEAD AT BMO FINANCIAL GROUP CANADIAN WOMEN'S OPEN
Vancouver - With a birdie on the final hole, Beth Daniel grabbed the second round lead today at the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women's Open. A pair of 69s gave Daniel a two-day total of six-under-par 138, and a one-stroke advantage over Scotland's Janice Moodie. Lurking close behind are Kim Saiki, Juli Inkster and first round leader Heather Bowie, sitting two strokes off the lead at -4.
"The round felt pretty good," said Daniel. "I actually hit the ball better yesterday, but that's kind of how golf is. I hit enough solid shots out there today to make an eagle and two birdies, and then I stayed pretty steady from then on. I was kind of starting to get a little frustrated with myself because I felt like I should have made more birdies, but I think it's that sort of golf course. You feel like you should be burning it up, but nobody is doing it. I've managed myself around this course very well for two days."
Daniel and Moodie will play together tomorrow and tee off at 2:35pm (Pacific).
Oh Canada!
Isabelle Beisiegel was once again the top Canadian, carding back-back 71s to finish in 10th place with a two-day total 142 (-2). Three B.C. golfers will join her on the weekend, including Vancouver's junior sensation Eom-Ji Park (72-74-146), Dawn Coe-Jones (74-73-147) and A.J. Eathorne (73-75-148).
Ten Canadians missed the +4 cut:
* Lisa Meldrum 76-73-149
* Marie-Josée Rouleau 73-77-150
* Lorie Kane 73-78-151
* Angela Buzminski 76-78-154
* Liz Earley 74-81-155
* Nancy Harvey 81-76-157
* Jennifer Wyatt 76-81-157
* Heather Lee 79-79-158
* Louise Zylstra 79-74-153
* Gail Graham 82-79-161
Thirty years have passed since a Canadian won an LPGA event on home soil. Jocelyne Bourassa's victory at La Canadienne in 1973 marked the first and only occasion a Canadian accomplished that feat.
