BRENT DELAHOUSSAYE CHARGES TO OPENING-ROUND LEAD AT 2010 RBC CANADIAN OPEN

Toronto (Golf Canada) - Brent Delahoussaye easily surpassed his career-low PGA TOUR round with his 8-under 62 Thursday to take the first-round lead at the 2010 RBC Canadian Open being held at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto.

The 28-year old PGA TOUR rookie had seven birdies, an eagle and a bogey to take a two-stroke lead heading into tomorrow. Delahoussaye’s previous low round was a 66, which he shot at the John Deere Classic two weeks ago.

Delahoussaye’s 8-under par 62 broke the previous course record of 64 set by Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Geroge Knudson in 1968.

With a opening-round 64, Vance Veazey is off to his best start of the season while matching his career-low PGA TOUR round. Veazey, who sits tied for second, shot a opening-round 7-under par 63 in today’s morning draw.

Amateur Nick Taylor began his 2010 RBC Canadian Open in style, holing out for eagle on his first hole of the day. Taylor, of Abbotsford, B.C, knocked in his approach shot on the par-4 from 113 yards. It was the first eagle of his PGA TOUR career. Taylor, who is a member of Team Canada, shot a first-round 71 and is tied for 100th.

Stephen Ames and Jon Mills both shot 3-under par 67’s to share low Canadian honours for the day.

There were five bogey-free rounds Thursday. They came from Stephen Ames, Greg Chalmers, Tim Clark, Ryan Palmer and Dean Wilson.

In five previous RBC Canadian Open appearances, Hunter Mahan, who is tied for fourth after the today’s opening-round, has never missed the cut. He finished fourth in 2004 and a tied for fifth in 2007, which are his best showings north of the border. Mahan hasn’t played in Canada since 2007, however he immediately made an impact on his return with an opening-round 65, that included seven birdies and two bogeys.
