BRITISH COLUMBIA WOMEN’S AMATEUR AND MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS TEE OFF AT CANOE CREEK GOLF COURSE
British Columbia’s top amateur and mid-amateur women teed off today at Canoe Creek Golf Course in Salmon Arm, B.C, for the 104th BC Women’s Amateur Championship and the 4th BC Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship conducted by the British Columbia Golf Association.
Leading the hunt is Kira Meixner of Richmond, B.C. who is looking to defend her title along with Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. who is looking to move up from her fourth place finish at last year’s championship. Little will also be defending her title in the Mid-Amateur Championship and looking for her fourth consecutive victory.
“We are expecting some very high-calibre golf from this field,” says Kris Jonasson, BCGA executive director. “Canoe Creek is going to be a challenge and we can look forward to an exciting few days.”
The BC Women’s Championship is a 72-hole gross stroke play competition with a cut after 54 holes to top 40 and ties. Ties for 1st place and for positions on the BC Team to the Canadian Women’s Championship will be decided by a sudden death playoff immediately following completion of play of the final round.
The BC Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship is a 54-hole gross stroke play competition with no cut.
Zone & club team competitions coincide with the first and second round of the BC Women’s Amateur/Mid-Amateur Championships. The zone team gross and net competition use the combined 36-hole gross and net scores for each zone team member. The zone team consists of players who are chosen by each zone in advance of the provincial championship. Two-woman club teams are selected after the first round by taking the two players with the lowest gross score from each club with two or more competitors and the two players with the lowest net score from each club with two or more competitors.
Championship play will be conducted Tuesday, June 30 to Friday, July 3, with 18 holes of stroke play each day.
A complete list of players, starting times and post-round results for the B.C. Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships can be found at www.bcga.org
