MURDOCH CLINCHES SECOND CANADIAN SENIOR GOLF TITLE

Steinbach, MB (September 2, 2004) - Alison Murdoch of Victoria, BC., entered play today just two stokes behind and left claiming her second Canadian senior title in three years.

Murdoch, carded a 79 on the final day of the Royale National Women's Senior Golf Championship, passing Jane Kirkpatrick of Woodbridge, ON., for the win. Kirkpatrick, yesterday's two-day leader had a dismal day posting a final round score of 89 to finish sixth.

The 54-year old Murdoch rallied from two strokes behind by carding 13 pars and a birdie on the final hole to finish with 76-73-79-228.

"It feels terrific. This validates the first win and proves to me that it wasn't a fluke," said an elated Murdoch. "I started the day out scrappy but after the turn I held it together. "

Murdoch earned her first title in 2002 at Riverside Golf & Country Club Saint John, NB., and last year finished seventh.

Wind played a major role in today's final round with gusts reaching up to 40km/h. Kirkpatrick struggled with the conditions surrendering the lead after hitting eight on the par four, seventh-hole.

"It was very windy out there - very windy" said Murdoch "It was hard to stabilize yourself on putts. I normally play in Victoria on the coast and have had to deal with winds like this, but this was tough."

Judi Lidstone of Winnipeg, MB finished second to Murdoch finishing just two strokes of the lead with a three day total of 77-78-76-231. Marilyn O'Connor of Calgary, AB., scored the daily low round with a 75 and finished the championship in third.

The Royale National Women's Senior Championship started play on Tuesday morning at Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club in Steinbach, MB. The first two rounds were counted towards the Provincial Team competition. Yesterday, British Columbia captured their third straight team title by topping
Alberta in a two-hole sudden death playoff.

Next year the Cottonwood Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Alberta will host the 2005 Royale National Women's Senior Championship from August 22- 25.
