CANADIAN LEADS LADIES' BRITISH AMATEUR OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

SCOTLAND (June 22, 2004) - Twenty-one year old Christine Boucher of Rouyn-Noranda, QC shot a four under par 69 to take the lead in the first round of play at the Ladies' British Amateur Open Golf Championship held in Scotland on Tuesday.

Heading into the second round Boucher, is the leader over Lindsay Knowlton of Toronto and Laura Jane Eastwood of Scotland. Knowlton, who is Boucher's teammate on the CLGA National Amateur Team, is tied with Eastwood - both shooting 70.

"I hit the ball and putted really well today," said Boucher, 21." My eagle on 10 really helped me keep it going the rest of the day. I'm not really surprised with my game. For some reason I always play well here [in the United Kingdom]."

Veronique Drouin of Sts-Agnes, QC also notched a under par score shooting a 72 to break into the top-five on the leader board. Par for the course in Gullane, Scotland is 73.

Competition remains tight with only 5 strokes distancing Boucher from the 29th position.

The five day event is a combined stroke play and match play event. The first two rounds of play are a qualifier for match play. Round two played tomorrow will determine match play parings. Match play begins on Wednesday June 24 with the final round taking place on Saturday June 26.
