CARSON KALLIS AND MICHELLE LEE CAPTURE CN FUTURE LINKS PRAIRIE CHAMPIONSHIP

Deer Valley, Sask. (RCGA) – After three days of exciting play, Carson Kallis of Red Deer, Alta., and Michelle Lee of Mississauga, Ont., captured the respective boy’s and girl’s divisions at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship as play concluded Thursday at Deer Valley Golf and Estates in Deer Valley, Sask.

In the Junior Boys competition, Kallis’ tremendous three-day score of 75-66-64-- 205 (-11) allowed him to come out on top at the third of six regional CN Future Links events being held across the country. Kallis shot an eagle and seven birdies on the day to finish with an impressive 8-under par 64.

The 16-year old Kallis was a picture of consistency, carding one eagle, 16 birdies and 31 pars during the three-day competition.

“Everything came together,” said Kallis. “I tried to drive well, keep out of trouble and aimed for the middle of the greens.”

Kallis broke the club’s record on Wednesday with his second-round score of 6-under par 66, only to beat it again when he shot 8-under par 64 in today’s final round.

“I played great and to get the course record twice was really just a bonus,” said Kallis.

Following Kallis were Cole Chelle of Edmonton and Scott Malo of Calgary finish in runner-up position with a three-day total of 225 (+9). Saskatoon’s Jesse Gibson, who entered the third round in 18th place, climbed to fourth place with his third-round score of 5-under par 67 and finished with a three-day total of 226 (+10).

In the Junior Girls competition, defending 2008 CN Future Links Prairie champion Michelle Lee shot 7-over on the day to finish with a three-day score of 231 (+15) to claim the junior girls’ victory. Despite being a veteran to the CN Future Links circuit, Lee credited her win to staying focused and playing strategically.

“This competition meant a lot to me and I had to try not to let my nerves get to me,” said Lee. “I had some troubles in the early rounds, but I tried to focus on getting myself into good positions and getting onto the greens.”

The 17-year old recently placed T32 at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour in Seymour Golf and Country Club in North Vancouver.

Following closely behind Lee was Elizabeth Tong of Thornhill, Ont., who took runner-up honours with a three-day score of 236 (+20). A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C., took third place with a three-day score of 238 (+22).
