BC competitors advance to match play at Canadian Men's Amateur Championship
Baddeck, Nova Scotia - Eleven British Columbians, including Victoria's Craig Doell and the timeless Doug Roxburgh, have made the cut and qualified for the match play portion of the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship. August 12th-19th at Bell Bay Golf Club. North Vancouver's Corey Steger was the low BC competitor in the field, firing rounds of 3-under 69 and even-par 72 to finish tied for seventh. Andrew Parr of London, Ontario took home medallist honours with rounds of 66 and 67.
The low 64 competitors qualified for the match play portion of the Championship, which required an eight-man playoff for a total of seven spots. Unfortunately, Langley's Patrik Ericson was the odd man out at the end. Also among those who failed to qualify for match play were BC Amateur champ James Lepp of Abbotsford and defending Canadian Amateur Champion Darren Wallace of Langley.
BC results from the first two rounds are as follows:
T7 Corey Steger, North Vancouver 69-72
T12 Craig Doell, Victoria 75-67
T17 Doug Roxburgh, Vancouver 72-72
T17 Matt Hastings, West Vancouver 74-70
T17 Jay Snyder, Vancouver 71-73
