Canadian Tour Players Hope To Take Flight At ACC

SURREY, BC — The Canadian Tour will be well represented in British Columbia this week when the PGA Tour stops in suburban Vancouver for the Air Canada Championship.

Eleven players who played Tour events this past season will be in the starting field when the opening round gets underway Thursday at Northview G&CC’s Ridge Course. Leading the way will be Hank Kuehne, who won a pair of Tour events on his way to the 2002 Order of Merit crown. Jeff Quinney, the second-place finisher on the money list, joins Steve Scott, Derek Gillespie, David Hearn, Rob McMillan, Dave Barr, Matt Daniel, Alex Quiroz, Alex Rocha, and Philip Jonas as ’02 Tour members who will play at the ACC this week.

Quinney was also a two-time winner in 2002, while Gillespie, McMillan, Scott, Daniel and Quiroz notched one title each. Hearn, 23, was named the Tour’s Canadian Rookie of the Year.

Also teeing it up this week will be several PGA players that have played on the Canadian Tour in recent years, among them Jess Daley, Kenneth Staton and Canadian stars Mike Weir, Ian Leggatt, and Richard Zokol.

Last summer, Joel Edwards ended an 11-year PGA Tour winless drought with a seven-shot triumph at Northview. After play wraps up Sunday, the PGA Tour heads across the country for next week’s Bell Canadian Open at Angus Glen in Markham, ON.
