Christine Wong goes wire to wire at B.C. Women’s Amateur

Cobble Hill, B.C. (July 2, 2010) – Richmond, B.C. resident, Christine Wong is the wire to wire winner at the 2010 B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship hosted by Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill, B.C.

“I’m really happy with the way I played this week – I had the touch,” says Wong. “I concentrated on keeping calm and worked on my breathing. My putting helped a lot too even though the greens were hard to read.”

Wong, a Canadian developmental team member, lead through all 72 holes to win her first provincial amateur victory by a full 11 strokes and was the only player in the field to finish under par. Her rounds of 68, 73, 73 and 69 combined for a total score of 5-under 283 and the 2010 trophy.

Wong will make her debut at the US Women’s Open next week in Pennsylvania.

Delivering a strong effort for runner-up honour with a final round 1-under 71 is Jessica Wallace of Langley, B.C. standing at 6-over 294.

Finishing alone in third place is Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C. at 11-over 299 followed by A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C. at 12-over 300.

Representing B.C. on the women’s inter-provincial team to the Royale Cup Nationale Women's Amateur Championship at Kingsville Golf & Country Club in Kingsville, Ontario July 26 – July 30 are Christine Wong of Richmond, B.C., Jessica Wallace of Langley, B.C., Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C. and Sue Kim of Langley, B.C. who was granted an exemption.

The BC Women’s Amateur is open to female amateur golfers. The B.C. Women’s Mid-Amateur is open to female amateur golfers age 25 years of age and older as of June 30, 2010.
