Crown Isle Resort Set To Host CN Future Links Pacific Championship

Many of Canada’s top junior golfers will gather in Courtenay, B.C. from May 1-4 as CN Future Links kicks off its ninth championship season with the CN Future Links Pacific Championship at Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community.

The event marks the first of six regional CN Future Links Championships held in each region of Canada and showcases four age divisions: Junior Boys (14-18 years), Junior Girls (14-18 years), Bantam Boys (11-13 years) and Bantam Girls (11-13 years). The CN Future Links Pacific Championship will see 99 golfers competing in a three-day 54-hole stroke play competition.

“As the CN Future Links Championships continue to grow, we’ve seen a tremendous jump in terms of depth and strength of our fields,” said Adam LeBrun, tournament director for the CN Future Links Pacific Championship. “The calibre of play at these events is very impressive and judging by the field we’re expecting at Crown Isle to kick off the season, I’d say we’re in for another fantastic showcase of talent.”

Golfers competing in the boys’ divisions will vie for one of six exemptions into the 2008 Canadian Junior Boys Championship at the Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club (August 4-8). Competitors in the girls’ divisions will challenge for an exemption into the 2008 CN Canadian Women’s Tour.

The CN Future Links program has helped develop some of Canada’s top amateur golfers including 2007 CN Future Links Ontario Champion and National Men’s Amateur Team member Mathieu Rivard of Granby, Que. as well as National Developmental Girl’s Team member and Ontario Women’s Amateur Champion Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Richmond Hill, Ont. Other top players competing include Riley Wheeldon of Courtenay B.C., and Eugene Wong of North Victoria, B.C.

Starting times, post-round results and a full field list are available through the Royal Canadian Golf Association website at www.rcga.org or on the CN Future Links website at www.future-links.org.
