(Fort McMurray, AB., June 26, 2011) - After 79 starts on the Canadian Tour without a win, Danny Sahl of Sherwood Park, AB not only won his first Canadian Tour event today but did it in convincing fashion. Starting the day at 14-under-par for the tournament Sahl shot 2-under-par 70 en route to a 16-under-par total in his 80th start on tour.

Playing in his tenth season on the Canadian Tour, Sahl is what many consider to be a late bloomer as a professional. His previous best finishes on the Canadian Tour included a pair of T5 finishes in Saskatoon and Winnipeg which culminated with a 31st showing on the 2010 Order of Merit. With his victory Sahl earns $24,000 which is not only the largest cheque of his career, it also surpasses his 2010 earnings by nearly $2500.

"I've had some great support from my family and especially my Dad who will probably see some of my earnings go back to him from this week," said an emotional Sahl following his maiden victory. "I couldn't have done this without their help and support and it makes this win even more special knowing they were a big part of it," said the 32-year-old Alberta native.

Sahl moves into fifth position on the Order of Merit, which puts him closer to earning a spot into the 2011 RBC Canadian Open in July. It also moves him closer to earning one of the two exemptions into the final stage of PGA TOUR Q-School, which is awarded to the top two finishers on the Order of Merit at seasons end.

Calgary native Dustin Risdon continued his fine play this season finishing today in a tie for second spot with David Dragoo of Switzerland. Risdon earned $11,700 for his efforts today and moves him up three spots on the Order of Merit into sixth position. Dragoo also moved his way up the Order of Merit and now sits in tenth position.

Roger Sloan struggled today managing just two birdies on his round to go along with 3 bogeys. His 1-over-par round of 73 did not hurt him that badly in the overall scheme of things dropping from a tie for third into a tie for fourth spot with California native Brett Kanda.

The biggest move up the leader board today was compliments of Sebastian Saavedra. Saavedra put together the round of the day under sunny but blustery conditions firing 6-under-par on the day. Saavedra's 66 was good enough to move him up 28 spots on the leader board from a tie for 35th to a tie for seventh. Adam Hadwin also managed to climb back up the leader board after faltering the second round of the tournament. Hadwin moved up 20 spots to finish in a tie for 12th.

The tour now moves from Northern Alberta to Calgary for the ATB Financial Classic. Dustin Risdon is the defending champion and has won the ATB twice in his career. The ATB Financial Classic begins next Thursday at Bear's Paw Golf Club.
