Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort
Many golfers think of mid length golf courses as a bike with training wheels. ”Nice if you’re just starting out, but sooner or later you will want to play a real golf course”. Well, Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort is a real golf course and its resume is impressive.
Garibaldi is an 18-hole par 64 and 4,644-yard long Les Furber creation that will push even the lowest of handicappers to their limits. It asks for, no it demands, accuracy a modest amount of length and a firm grip on your nerves if you want to score well. In the same breath this beautiful south coast course does have a softer, kinder side that allows novices and the occasional golfer to come out and enjoy their day on the links.
Only sixty kilometers past Horseshoe Bay on Highway 99 (1 hour north of Vancouver and 45 minutes south of Whistler) this terrific course waits for you.
The Scariest Hole on the Course
The 383 yard long par four 15th is a breath-taking hole. The tee box looks at mountain views that will make your heart skip a beat. This ski-sloped like hole has a narrow fairway that tears down the mountainside like a run away freight train. As you walk down the hill you will see, way down below you, a well-trapped green with a ridge running through it from 9 o’clock to 2 o’clock. Be on the wrong side with your approach shot and you could be there long enough to see the seasons change. Think short and straight and don’t be embarrassed to hit your 3 or 5 wood from many tee boxes and a good score can be had here.
Garibaldi and Area
The Garibaldi area is actually in Squamish, BC. Here you can help to count eagles during the world famous Brakendale Eagle Count (February). Or you can camp at Dryden Falls or near by Alice Lake Provincial Park. Perhaps you are into aerial sight seeing? There are many airplane and helicopter companies offering tours of Tantalus Mountains or the Pemberton Ice Cap. Want more to do when you putt out? Try: salt or fresh water fishing, wildlife photography, shopping, train rides to and from both Vancouver and Whistler and check out other near by golf courses if you still have the urge. Recommended is the Squamish valley G&CC. This 18-hole course is less than 10 minutes from Garibaldi.
