Jennifer Yang comes back to take B.C. Junior Girls’ Crown

Victoria, BC (July 9, 2010) – Jennifer Yang of Coquitlam, B.C. scored an even-par 72 today and reclaimed top spot on the leaderboard to win the B.C. Junior Girls’ crown at Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, B.C.

Yang finished with a final 3-over 291, four shots ahead of 2009 B.C. Bantam champion Alix Kong of West Vancouver, B.C., Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C., and defending champion A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C., who all tied for second at 7-over 295.

Taylor Kim of Surrey, B.C., and round-three leader Amanda Baker of Nanaimo, B.C., stand at 8-over 296 for a tie at fifth.

Following the round, there was a playoff between Kong, Kim and Choi for the last two spots on the B.C. inter-provincial team. Choi emerged victorious on the first hole after firing birdie, Kong snapped up the other spot after she and Kim moved to the second hole.

Representing B.C. on the junior girls’ inter-provincial team to the at Sawmill Creek Golf Resort in Camlachie, Ontario August 2-6, 2010 are Jennifer Yang of Coquitlam, B.C., A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C., Alix Kong of West Vanopuver, B.C., and Christine Wong of Richmond, B.C., who was granted an exemption.

Wong, the newly crowned B.C. Women’s Amateur champion is a member of the development team with Golf Canada has qualified to play in the 2010 US Women’s Open and will therefore not be available to play in the 2010 British Columbia Junior Girls’ Championship.

After a strong performance and unfortunate loss in the playoff with Kong, Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C. will have her expenses paid to the national championship by Golf British Columbia.
