Jennifer Yang takes over lead at 2010 B.C. Junior Girls’ Championship
Victoria, BC (July 7, 2010) – Jennifer Yang of Coquitlam, B.C., took over top spot after shooting an even-par 72 to sit as the only player under par at 1-under 143. Yang played a consistent round, carding three birdies on the back nine.
Stephanie Wong of Richmond, B.C., and Amanda Baker of Nanaimo, B.C., are tied for second at even-par 144. Defending champion A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C. is alone in fourth at 2-over 146 followed by 2009 B.C. Juvenile champion Taylor Kim of Surrey, B.C., in fifth at 3-over 147 and Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam, B.C. in sixth at 5-over 149.
Four players hold their share of seventh place with two-day scores of 150 (+6). Among them are Victoria (Jisu) Choi of Langley, B.C., who shot the women’s course record yesterday, 2009 B.C. Bantam champion, Alix Kong of West Vancouver, B.C., Leilanie Kim of Surrey, B.C. and Megan Osland of Kelowna, B.C.
Kong will be heading to England this Friday to represent Canada in the R&A Junior Open at St. Andrews Golf Club.
The championship calls for 72 holes of stroke play including a zone championship and there will be a cut to low 35 and ties after 54 holes. Play will commence at 7:30 a.m. from the #1 tee each day.
The top three finishers along with Christine Wong will represent B.C. at the Royale Cup Junior Girls’ Championship at Sawmill Creek Golf Resort in Camlachie, Ontario August 2-6, 2010.
