Laschuk reclaims the Senior Women’s crown

June 16, 2010- Murdoch takes Super Seniors

It went 2 extra holes but Phyllis Laschuk of Vancouver, B.C. tapped in for par and edged out Kelowna’s Lynda Palahniuk to capture her second B.C. Senior Women’s title.

Laschuk and Palahniuk battled all day holding leads at different points in the round. Just when one looked like she had control, the other came right back into contention. Both women finished at 9-over 231.

“It was 2003 all over again,” says Laschuk. “Lynda and I battled it out in Revelstoke and I won the title there on a playoff hole.”

Laschuk carded a 5-over 79 for the day while two-round leader, Palahniuk posted a 7-over 81. Laschuk posted a tie for the ladies course record yesterday, set in 2002 by Palahniuk at the Summerland Ladies Open.

“My putting fell asleep today but I don’t care, today was a good, special day,” says Laschuk. “The course was exceptional to play – a real gem. I am really happy where I finished.”
Third place honours went to Karen Pultz of Surrey, B.C., who finished at 11-over 233 followed by 2009 B.C. Senior Women’s champion, Alison Murdoch in fourth at 13-over 235.

Laschuk, Palahniuk, Murdoch and first-time team member Pultz will represent British Columbia in the provincial team competition at the Royale Canadian Senior Women’s Championship August 23-26, 2010 at Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville, B.C.
Murdoch held on to win the Super Senior division at 13-over 235. Marilyn Moscovitch of West Vancouver, B.C. claimed second at 25-over 247 five shots ahead of Beverly McGladery of Vancouver, B.C. in third at 30-over 252. Robin Lee Monroe of Vancouver, B.C. stands alone in fourth at 31-over 253 for fourth.

The B.C. Senior Women’s Amateur is one of 13 provincial championships conducted annually by Golf British Columbia. The B.C. Senior Women’s Championship is open to all female amateur golfers who have reached the age of 50 by June 14, 2010.
