Meadow Creek Golf Club
Logan Lake is a delightful wilderness town 45 minutes south of Kamloops. A tourist retreat that offers, during the winter, big game hunting, ice fishing and snowmobiling. During the summer fishing, again, remains a popular activity as does camping and all water sports. But the main summertime attraction here is the 9 hole Meadow Creek Golf Club.
At 6,000 yards long Meadow Creek will never be compared with Bethpage. But being surrounded by tall pine trees, natural water hazards and all sorts of wild flowers and wild life many of the average golfers will have more fun here than on much longer but duller courses.
A Stairway to Heaven
Before you even tee it up grab the camera and be ready to snap. The opening hole is a medium length par four that plays downhill. As you walk over the practise green and approach the 1st tee you will see a set of stairs leading up to a little viewing platform. This viewing platform serves two purposes. The first is to let golfers just starting out to see if the fairway is clear. The second is to let visitors get a good look at how big and beautiful the surrounding area is. There are a couple of these towers on the course, for other players safety and your enjoyment make use of them.
A Roller Coaster Second
The second hole is an up and down, left to right. The wheel of fortune spins round and round 347-yard long par four adventure. From the tee you have no idea where the green is. The fairway is wide and well defined but still you are hitting a blind tee shot. The best advice is to hit it as straight as possible and if you are going to miss make your mistake on the left hand side. The fairway runs downhill to about the 150-yard mark then it starts to move uphill and dogleg right. It is from this point you get your first indication where the green is and that is only because they use an extra tall pin to help grab your attention. With sand guarding the green and nowhere to miss long, this is a short hole that can damage a scorecard in a hurry.
Believe What You Read
The 7th hole may not be the longest par 3 you will ever play, at 174 yards long that is an understatement, but it may be one of the most difficult. The yardage sign on the tee box reads the shortest par 5 in BC. Before you start laughing I am here to tell you the sign is most often right. The trick here is the uphill tee shot to a well-domed green. You will need as many as 2 extra clubs to get the green but if you come in too hot, short or just little off to either edge, your ball will roll down the hill leaving you a long and delicate pitch back.
