PRIDDIS GREENS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB READY TO CHALLENGE THE STARS OF THE LPGA TOUR
Calgary (RCGA) – When the stars of the LPGA Tour take to the course for Thursday’s opening round, waiting to challenge them will be a championship-tested layout at Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club.
Following their appearance in Wednesday’s Championship Pro-Am, LPGA Tour stars Katherine Hull, Lorena Ochoa and Paula Creamer spoke at length about the venerable Priddis Greens layout as they prepare to challenge for the $2.75 million (US) CN Canadian Women’s Open.
“The golf course is great,” said Hull. “There's a lot of holes out there that you can be aggressive on, that you need to capitalize on, because I think it's going to be probably a really good score that wins here.”
Hull, 27, is humbled with her defending CN Canadian Women’s Open champion title.
“Yeah, it's an honour to be able to say that, and my game's probably not exactly where I want it, but as we all know in golf, anything's possible and it doesn't have to be perfect,” added the Australian. “I'm just looking to get myself into contention and see what happens from there.”
Galleries at Priddis will be treated to a showcase of golf at it finest with the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour Official Money List, including the top 20 on the Rolex Rankings. Rising star Paula Creamer will once again be a fan favourite, but acknowledges that she’ll need to compete and work hard if she hopes to claim the CN Canadian Women’s Open trophy.
“Yeah, it's a wonderful feeling, but at the same time you gotta get your practice done and work on your game,” said Creamer, on her popularity this week at Priddis. “But I love coming to Canada. The fans here are awesome and we’ve always had such great galleries. You know, the people just really respect golf and that’s what we like.”
Another player sure to challenge is Lorena Ochoa, who is hoping to claim her second title in three years at Canada’s national women’s Open championship.
“I’m happy to be here and my goal every tournament I play is to win,” said Ochoa. “I know that there are many players out there trying to win, so the competition is not easy, but I like my chances. I’m going to try really hard, like I always do, and hopefully it is a good week.”
WEDNESDAY PRO-AM RESULTS
The teams hosted by LPGA Tour professionals Mika Miyazato and Kim Hall came out on top at today’s Championship Pro-Am. In the morning draw, Mika Miyazato teamed with amateurs Aaron Degodny, B.J. Cornelius and Bob Miller to shoot a 17-under par 54. In the afternoon draw, Kim Hall joined amateurs David Lemmon, Trent Wood and Mel Miller to fire an 18-under par 53 to take home the afternoon draw.
