PARK LEADS WIRE TO WIRE WITH DRAMATIC FINISH AT JUNIOR

Moose Jaw, SK (August 12, 2004) - Inah Park of Burnaby, BC, captured her first Canadian championship despite a hard charge by Jessica Potter of Coquitlam, BC, during the final round at the Royale National Junior Girls' Championship in Moose Jaw on Thursday.

Park finished one over for the day and earned her victory by posting a three day score of 70-74-73-217, just two over for the week. Potter was in hot pursuit of Park all day long and shot a course record 69 to finish in second place.

Beginning the day Potter was five strokes behind but after a eagle on six and back to back birdies on seven and eight, the two were tied. After Park boogied hole 10, Potter took the lead for seven holes but boogied 17 to remain tied for the lead.

On 18, with Potter watching in the gallery, Park sunk a 10 foot birdie putt to take away any hopes of a playoff for the championship.

"I honestly had no idea it was such a big putt," said the 18-year-old Park. "The whole round I just focused on my own score, and tried to play my game. I'm actually really glad I didn't know because I probably wouldn't have sunk it. I didn't know the importance of it."

"This is something I wanted to do before I finished my junior career. I'm happy it happened and I did it," said Park. "It feels so good right now. really really good."

Potter who was runner up at the junior championship last season had mixed emotions.

"That's how it goes I guess," said Potter. "It was close but its ok. I played well all week and that's all I can work for right? I'm really happy for Inah right now. We're pretty good friends and its good for her."

The Royale National Junior Girls' Championship started Tuesday with first round action. Competitors competed in three rounds of play with the first two rounds also counting as a team competition. Yesterday, BC walked away with that crown.

Next year the Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club in Cobble Hill, BC will host the 2005 Royale National Junior Girls' Championship from August 1-4.
