SECOND ROUND CANCELLED AT LADIES' BRITISH AMATEUR OPEN

SECOND ROUND CANCELLED AT LADIES' BRITISH AMATEUR OPEN
Match play starts Friday

SCOTLAND (June 24, 2004) – Five Canadians have qualified for match play at the Ladies’ British Amateur Open Championship after organizers pulled the plug on the second round of qualifying Thursday.

Organizers, who had already postponed the second round yesterday, decided to cancel play due to severe weather conditions. High winds and very heavy rain from a deep Atlantic depression have continued to hamper the region over the past 48 hours.

Match play will begin on Friday morning with the qualifying leader, Christine Boucher of Rouyn-Noranda, QC, squaring off against Spain’s Azahara Munoz at 7:30am local time. Other Canadians qualifying for match play include Lindsay Knowlton of Toronto, Laura Matthews of Essex, ON, Véronique Drouin of Sts-Agnes, QC, and Jessica Luciuk of Barrhead, AB.

Tournament officials used the scores from round one to determine the match play parings for Friday. Competition has also been extended one day with the final match play round taking place on Sunday (June 27).
