VGT Tournament Review 2008 - Nickle Heating Open

The 2008 Nickel Heating Open, co-sanctioned by the Srixon Golf Tour, hosted a record breaking 100 contestants for the one day VGT Open event held at the Ledgeview Golf Club & Country Club yesterday.

On this sunny but breezy day Professional Dan Swanson of the Guilford Golf Club proved victorious, birdying the 18th hole for a score of (-4) to beat young Professional Jeremy Paradis of Langley by one stroke to capture the title and a cheque for $1,500. Swanson’s winning performance included a total of six birdies on the day and vaulted him to the top of VGT’s Professional Order of Merit with a year-to-date earnings of $2,758.33 after four events. Swanson is chased by Seymour Creek’s Kendal Yonemoto and John Shin - winner of the Brad Garside Open – VGT’s Opening Event.

The Amateur Flight of the Nickel Heating Open proved equally exciting as three young VGT Amateurs (Ted Cho, Ryan Brooks and Justin Hyun) tied for first with a score of (+2). After a five-hole play-off, Ryan Brooks of Pitt Meadows Golf Club was crowned the Low Amateur winner, claiming a Galvin Green WindStopper jacket valued at $400. After four events, Ted Cho of The Redwoods Golf Course holds a commanding lead in the Amateur Order of Merit with 1,750 points. His closest competitor is Sunshine Coast’s Mike Mannion with 982.5 points.

Nickel Heating & Ventilation owner Steve Savage, proud supporter of VGT and its efforts to bring golf to the next level in BC, congratulates all winners of yesterday’s event and is excited to see how the remainder of the season unfolds and who will be crowned the Order of Merit Champions for 2008. VGT’s Professional Order of Merit Champion will win a paid entry down to PGA Tour Qualifying School valued at approx. $5,000.

Both Professional and Amateur Prize Winners are attached. For full field results, please follow our Golfbox live scoring link: http://www.vancouvergolftour.com/2008/live_scoring.htm and click on ‘NICKEL HEATING OPEN’.

The next tournament on VGT’s schedule is the HAYWOOD SECURITIES OPEN scheduled for Monday, May 5that Point Roberts Golf & Country Club. The registration deadline for this event is Monday, April 28th at 8pm. If you have not done so already, I would suggest that you register as early as possible for both this event and our final Spring Series event – The ECCO GOLF Spring Championship at Hazelmere, as entries are getting close to being full. A reminder that full payment prior to the registration deadline is required to confirm your entry into the event.
