IRELAND WINS INAUGURAL CANADA-IRELAND JUNIOR GOLF CHALLENGE
Mississauga, Ont.- Team Ireland defeated Canada 11½ to 4½ in the inaugural Canada-Ireland Junior Challenge. The event, which was conducted at Portmarnock Golf Club near Dublin, Ireland, follows Ryder Cup format with each country represented by two players in four separate age groups (under-19 years old, under-18 years old, under-17 years old and under-16 years old).
Thursday's play consisted of four foursome matches in the morning followed by four fourball matches in the afternoon, resulting in a 5-3 lead for Ireland. Play concluded today with eight singles matches.

"Rain and very high winds were a big challenge today," said RCGA national coach Henry Brunton, who accompanied Team Canada overseas. "Still, we're pleased overall. The matches were much closer than the final score reflects and our team played well under brutal conditions. The guys are all in good spirits and it's been a tremendous learning experience."
