Osoyoos Ladies 1st Annual Amateur Team Scramble

On June 8th & 9th, 2002, the Ladies Club of the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club held their inaugural Team Scramble Tournament. No such women's competition had been attempted before in the South Okanagan. When entry forms were sent out response was swift and there was a waiting list before the end of May. Participants from the home club plus entries from Oliver, Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, Vernon, West Vancouver, Washington State and Alberta made up a field of 144 golfers.

This two day event started out with high winds, overcast skies and a hint of rain throughout the day. This was not typical Osoyoos weather but we have had to play games with the "Weather Gods" all spring. Sunday was much better with beautiful sunshine and of course lower scores.

Tournament organizers were able to solicit sponorships and prizes from about 50 local businesses. Hole-in-one prizes available for the lucky golfer included an all-expense trip to Puerta Vallarta, a power golf cart, a two year lease on a Honda Civic and $10,000.00 in cash.

After the first round, on Saturday night, the golfers were awarded KP prizes, door prizes and treated to a lavish banquet of poached wild salmon and chicken with great musical entertainment by professional singer Gillian Russell from Victoria.

Tournament chairperson, Marilyn Mathieson, praised the "pitch in and help" spirit of the Osoyoos Ladies Club. "it was largely due to our women's willingness to put extra time and effort into the tournament that made it such a happy and successful event. I feel confident that there will be a 2nd
Annual Ladies Amateur Team Scramble event next year with bigger prizes, even stiffer competition and even better weather".

The ladies team from Fairview Mountain Golf Club won first place with a score of 2 under par...Unfortunately, I don't have scores for the other teams but here are the final results"
