Greg Norman To Visit Cliffs Over Maple Bay

Wednesday May 23rd Will Be "Moving Day" At The Cliffs When Course Architect Greg Norman Signs Off On All Remaining Earth Moving And Final Shaping Of Up To 15 Holes.

Greg Norman will once again be front and centre on Southern Vancouver Island when he makes the next site inspection of his signature golf course at The Cliffs Over Maple Bay later this month.

Work has reached the point where golf's former #1 will be able to make the tweaks and subtle design touches that have made Norman one of the most highly regarded course architects in the world today.

During this visit, Greg will be reviewing the final shaping / grading for 15 holes and then deciding on the finishing touches for contouring. He will also authorize routing for stream and creek rehabilitation.

At that point Paul Garvie, who is also managing construction of two other major golf course projects currently being built on Vancouver Island, will be able to work for the next three months unimpeded. Final shaping will continue through the summer with irrigation to be installed in the fall. This will put crews in the position of seeding some holes this fall and the balance in the spring of next year. If the weather cooperates, play will begin in August of 2008.

With the course now 90% rough graded, and irrigation installation scheduled to begin this summer, Developer Warren Paulin is aware that time will pass very quickly.

"The course will have some grassing complete by this fall and would then open in late Summer, 2008. That's not too far off when you consider we still have the pro shop and everything else that has to be ready."

The 6,891-yard, par 72 signature layout is the centerpiece for the masterplanned Golf Course and Residential Community just 45 minutes north of Victoria.

Overall, the project promises to be one of the most spectacular developments in the province in recent memory. Views stretch from the Strait of Georgia toward Vancouver to the mountains and lakes of the Cowichan Valley for a magnificent vista of more than 210 degrees. All this located in the highest average year-round temperatures in the country.

Developer, Warren Paulin, sees the prestigious development as similar, and even superior to, the other high-end projects on Southern Vancouver Island.

“The Cliffs is similar to Bear Mountain... spectacular views, a "name designer" golf layout married to premier real estate. The main difference is that this is on a more intimate and exclusive scale. There are only 360 homesites and 295 condominiums here. Plans are also underway for the development of a high-end boutique 100 room hotel in an ultra exclusive village-style setting."

To date 130 home-sites have been sold in Phases One and Two and there are none currently available from the developer in either phase. The prestigious home-sites in Phase Three are set to be released in late May. These properties will have some of the finest ocean views in the entire development. Buyers will be able to view information related to this Phase in the new, on-site, 4100 square foot show home at that time.

The major arterial route through the development now has more than 50% of the sewer and services completed with road paving set to start next month.

Developer Warren Paulin says," We should see Phase 1 paved by June 30. That will be Kingsview through from the Properties to Nevilane Drive. Then Phase 2, Viewtop and Highwood will follow in August and Phase 3 after that."

Sotheby’s International Realty Canada is marketing the project. Zane Bouvette, President of the Land Division is very excited to be involved with the project.

“Maple Bay has long been one of the hidden gems on Vancouver Island. The locale is surprisingly reminiscent of Deep Cove in North Vancouver. Boaters also consider this to be one of the prettiest and most protected moorage sites on the entire coast."

He is also extremely impressed with the opportunity that The Cliffs presents.

"The fact that this is the first course in Western Canada designed by Greg Norman, one of the most respected and well-known architects in the world, makes this a very exciting situation. Then, when you compare the quality of the product with unbelievable views from properties right on the golf course, its location with Canada's best weather and the purchase price points to everything else in BC... there is no doubt that we will see continued strong demand for this project."

The Cowichan Valley, a 45 minute drive from Victoria, is one of the premier rural communities in the country and now boasts more than a dozen vineyards in the region. The catchment area exceeds 75,000 people and the community enjoys a rich cultural scene and all services from major retailers to a full service hospital.
