Justin Rose Takes Lead Into Final Round of 2006 Canadian Open

Justin Rose will be looking to claim his first PGA Tour victory Sunday when he takes a narrow one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round of the 2006 Canadian Open.

Sitting atop one of the most crowded Canadian Open leaderboards in recent years, Rose fired a third-round 5-under 65 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club under cool and soggy conditions to head into Sunday at 11-under par.

Sitting in a second-place logjam at 10-under are Bart Bryant, Trevor Immelman, Jonathan Byrd, and Sean O’Hair while Brett Quigley, Steve Lowry and Jim Furyk are tied for sixth, two shots back.

With Canada’s national Open title set for a wire finish, 20 players are within five shots of the lead heading into Sunday’s final round with hopes of claiming the $900,000 winners’ share of the $5 million (US) purse.

Victor Ciesielski continued to captivate golf fans at Hamilton Saturday as the 21-year old Cambridge, Ont. native shot a 1-under 69 to sit tied for 31st at 3-under for the tournament. The charismatic amateur has been one of this week’s great stories since earning a spot in the field during the Monday qualifier.

Also sitting tied for 31st at 3-under is Brantford, Ont. native David Hearn who shot a 71 on Saturday while Ian Leggatt of Cambridge, Ont. and reigning Canadian Men’s Amateur champion Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ont. hold a share of 46th at 2-under.
