It has completed hydro-mulching and has started paving golf car pathways. Hydro-mulching, or hydro-seeding, is a grass planting process that is fast, efficient and more effective than conventional seeding. During the process, mulch, seed, and water are mixed together. Once the mix is applied to the soil, it enhances initial growth by creating a micro-environment that aids seed germination.

Hydro-mulching now will allow almost a full season for the seed to grow-in. With the highly fertile soil conditions and the exceptional weather the Okanagan receives, the course will be in great shape by late summer of 2007.

There will be limited play at The Golf Club at The Rise in 2007 with play restricted to Founders Club members, Golf Club members, property owners at The Rise and invited guests. At present, construction of The Golf Club at The Rise is 75% complete. An irrigation system is currently being installed on holes number 10-18, while some earthmoving is underway on holes 1 through 9.

The Golf Club at The Rise is the first Fred Couples Signature Course in Western Canada and Fred Couples will conduct a site visit in Spring of 2007. Couples/Bates Design (an affiliation between Fred Couples and award-winning golf course architect Gene Bates) have designed the course, with construction from Blackpaw Construction (under the direction of Ian Renton). For the course to receive "Signature" status, Fred has been directly engaged in its design from the very beginning. This involvement continues as Fred's approval is required at every major step in the construction process.

"With 12 out of 18 holes having lake views, this course is going to blow people away. It would be a shame to unveil a golf course like The Rise in anything less than world-class conditions. If you ask many golf course owners what they would have done differently when developing their golf course, invariably, they regret opening the golf course too soon. We will not make the mistake of opening it too early and may wait until spring of 2008 for an Official Grand Opening." says Rod Cochrane, general manager at The Golf Club at The Rise.

PGA Tour Pro Fred Couples has experience playing courses all over the world. An important design focus he brings to The Golf Club at The Rise is making sure the course is both challenging and enjoyable. The design team is incorporating five sets of tees into the course to accommodate golfers of every level of play.

According to Cochrane, the design team is making sure the course balances fair and unfair, "Golf courses designed well, penalize the golfer for a poor shot, and more importantly, reward the golfer for hitting a good one. Many golfers will recall hitting a particular tee shot well, only to discover the ball has rolled into the rough, a hidden hazard or into a position with a bad approach for their next shot. A golf course designed with the most attention to these 'shot values' is the one you feel like playing again and again."

The Fred Couples Signature Golf Course is situated on a ridge overlooking the north and south arms of Okanagan Lake. A feature that sets The Golf Club at The Rise apart is the position of the homes in relation to the course, with setbacks among the highest in the industry. Home-site lines are back at least 200 feet from the tees and setbacks are 300 feet in diameter from the greens. Homes are only ever situated on one side of the hole.

Fred Couples is scheduled for a site visit in spring or summer 2007. Gene Bates, Fred's design partner, visited the site recently to keep Fred informed, ensuring the design meets his expectations.

Using satellite imagery, aerial photography and on-site footage, The Rise has produced virtual fly-over animations of the entire course. The 17th hole animation is the most indicative of The Rise's breath-taking lake views. These animations provide a tee to green fly-over that takes the viewer along the length of the hole while highlighting elevation and terrain changes and all hazards. The virtual fly-overs can be seen online at:
